QSL, Groupe Robert and Express Mondor announce their intention to join forces

Quebec, January 10, 2018 – QSL, Groupe Robert (Watson and Sycamore) and Express Mondor have marked a milestone in their development with the signing of an agreement in principle to create one of the largest heavy hauling and oversized transportation consortiums in Eastern Canada. The three industry leaders are setting the stage to consolidate their strategic positioning, accelerate their growth and enhance the range of services offered to their clients.

Sorel-Tracy Maritime Terminal was awarded the "CHOOSING TO SURPASS YOURSELF" award by the Sorel-Tracy Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

By its involvement in the region's economic development and by the investments made in its infrastructures, the team of this maritime terminal proved their commitment to the region.

Congratulation to all the team!

On Monday, April 11 there were special visitors at the terminal of Hamilton. Vin Diesel, Ruby Rose, Deepika Padukone as well as the whole filming crew for the third Triple X movie spent a few days in the Toronto and Hamilton area to shoot a few scenes. Our team of workers contributed to their work by setting up the decor used on that day. Even if the cold weather surprised the stars during their stay, they still enjoyed themselves. We can’t wait to see the result when the movie comes out!

Last March, in the region of Sorel-Tracy, took place the Joe Desgagnés hockey tournament. This tournament that reunites teams representing the majority of industries in the region is a friendly and festive gathering.

Registered with ten other teams in the friendly class, QSL’s team, comprised of employees and longshoremen, won the cup in their category. A Good victory for our representatives!

Congratulations to the team!

We proudly received the video from TVA underlining the impressive operations that take place every year at the port ofBécancour. To watch the video:

The British Army lands in Bécancour

Every year since the 1970’s, the British Army ships, from England to Canada, the military equipment needed to train its troops in Alberta. Heavy artillery, explosives and the armament required for combat exercises are unloaded every year at the port of Bécancour, before being transported by rail to its final destination: Suffield, the largest military training area in the Commonwealth.

For many years, QSL has played an important role in handling equipment for the British Army. In 2004, a first ship of army explosives is unloaded at one of our terminals, Grande-Anse on the Saguenay River. In 2004-2005, Quebec Stevedoring receives heavy artillery for the first time at its Anse au Foulon terminal. The unloading then takes place in 2006 at the Port of Bécancour, where operations have been taking place smoothly since then. The special permit necessary for handling explosives, the proximity of the railway network, as well as the expertise of its workers make the Port of Bécancour the best port for the British Army.

Nice visit at the Port of Saguenay

The Quebec Prime Minister, Mr. Philippe Couillard, as well as the minister responsible for the maritime strategy, Mr. Jean D’Amour, came to visit the Grande-Anse marine facilities in Port of Saguenay. They met the Regional Member for the city of la Baie, Mr. Serge Simard, the mayor of Saguenay, Mr. Jean Tremblay, as well as QSL employees.

Discussions on obtaining the designation of industrial port zone helped to take stock of the various projects of Port of Saguenay. For the Grande-Anse marine terminal, “It’s really interesting for the coming years for maritime development, especially here, in Saguenay,” states Carl Laberge, manager of Port of Saguenay, believing that the prime minister showed an encouraging and open attitude in various matters.

The Prime Minister of Quebec, Philippe Couillard, spent much of Monday in Saguenay, taking the opportunity to meet various stakeholders in the social and economic sectors.

QSL gets involved

On February 13, 2016, the Ski day with QSL and Audrey Robichaud was held.

Indeed, the 15 children who won a Ski day with QSL & Audrey Robichaud, in collaboration with the OMHQ, were treated to a truly royal treatment. For one day, they were able to escape on the slopes of Ski Centre Le Relais under the supervision of our volunteers, monitors from the ski center and none other than Olympian Audrey Robichaud, who taught them the basics of skiing with vivacity and passion. Result: the majority of children were able to tackle the mountain during the day! A real achievement for many of them...

We sincerely thank all volunteers and partners for their involvement in the realization of this event. Together, we have brought a bit of happiness in the heart of each of these children!

This day filled with smiles has certainly brought Audrey a great deal of inspiration, since she has grabbed the bronze medal at the World Cup on February 27, 2016 in Tazawako, Japan.

Congratulations, Audrey!

QSL is joining Green Marine

We are pleased to inform you that QSL and all its subsidiaries are joining Green Marine, an environmental certification program for the North American marine industry.

Green Marine offers a simple and comprehensive environmental program that helps participating organizations to measure the impact of their activities on the environment. More specifically, it aims to establish a voluntary environmental policy throughout the entire maritime corridor and to target the important issues that encourage the industry to want to exceed the regulatory requirements for ultimately getting closer to environmental excellence.

Our involvement with Green Marine is one of the main steps undertaken by the HSSE department in order to place the environment at the heart of QSL’s operations. This will prove a key tool in obtaining future certifications.

It was on September 9th that we proceeded to the unveiling of our new OHS slogan during a BBQ held at the head office of QSL, in Quebec City.

Health and Safety: for our people, by our people

Stemming from a contest launched last March, the winning slogan distinguished itself from the 85 suggestions received from our employees throughout the network.

The committee of 9 people representing the management as well as several departments of QSL, unanimously chose the sentence which best represents the philosophy of the company on Health and Safety. His author Christopher Gauthier, senior legal councel at the head office, thus deserved the first prize of this contest.

Health and Safety: for our people, by our people is the perfect image of our OHS vision and will appear on several of our corporate communication tools. It is unarguably a reminder that each of us has to remain cautious at any time on the workfield and be conscious of the consequences of their acts on their colleagues.

We wish to thank the employees for their implication in this event.

New Rail Spur Ready to Roll at Port of Oshawa

The Port of Oshawa has boosted its industry benefits, with the official opening today of a new $4.1 million rail spur at a special ribbon cutting ceremony attended by local elected and industry officials.

“The rail spur is a crucial link that helps us meet the growing demands of businesses,” said Donna Taylor, President and CEO of the Oshawa Port Authority. “Oshawa’s national deep-sea port is now truly intermodal, and able to move cargo of all sizes year round. That’s a huge advantage.”

The rail spur, allows the port to handle more cargo, and break into the niche project cargo market. The track includes an oversized dimensional move section to accommodate project cargo that’s too big to move by road.
