The Sorel-Tracy Maritime Terminal, located in Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel and 70 km from Montréal at the mouth of the Richelieu River, is the only private port along the St. Lawrence Seaway. It is open year-round and specializes in the handling of steel products and general cargo. Stevedoring services are guaranteed within 24 hours to all marine carriers.
Water depth (according to Chart Datum) ranges from 6.3 metres to 11 metres. Major dredging work was carried out in 2005 to make it completely safe to dock at any of the four piers.
The facilities are constantly monitored, and carriers that pick up cargo from the vast inside and outside storage areas are closely tracked. The fully computerized inventory management system is able to meet all clients' needs.
Permanently equipped with mobile cranes that can lift up to 220 tonnes, Sorel-Tracy Maritime Terminal not only has two Canadian National (CN) railways at its dock, it also provides access to major highways in Quebec, Canada and the United States.
