ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT POLICY

Since its foundation in 1978, Quebec Stevedoring has always made good environmental practices and sustainable development its concern. Combining social, economic and environmental dimensions into the management of the company is a fundamental requirement for achieving development that is deemed sustainable.

The challenge faced by Quebec Stevedoring’s environment and sustainable development committee is to ensure that the company’s behaviour, actions, policies and regulations – in short, all its professional activities – are geared toward achieving sustainable development. The committee oversees the distribution, implementation and periodical review of the policy and ensures that employees, clients and suppliers are not only aware of this policy, but also subscribe to protecting the environment and fostering sustainable development.

Every day, the company lives up to its commitment to prevent pollution and continuously strives to integrate the notions of environmental protection and sustainable development into its activities. This is achieved by:

  • Referring to these issues when drawing up contracts with clients and suppliers;
  • Responsibly managing handling-related activities aimed at protecting the environment and the health and safety of employees, clients and the general public;
  • Adhering to the principle of recycling. The company also ensures that materials are reused in each division whenever it is economically and environmentally acceptable to do so;
  • Analyzing, designing and managing its facilities and equipment in accordance with regulations and standards in effect;
  • Raising awareness among its personnel and suppliers by training them and making them accountable;
  • Collaborating with governments in developing standards and regulations that pertain to innovative technological methods and that are economically feasible and based on environmental impact assessment studies;
  • Designating, at the head office, a person responsible for implementing this policy in all facilities.

Using these concrete means, the company therefore seeks to achieve excellence in the area of environmental protection and sustainable development.

PORT SAFETY

Our terminals meet the standards of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. These measures aim at ensuring the safety of sea transport and cargo handling from one port to the next.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

Company management considers the health and safety of workers a top priority. Regular meetings enable employees and management to discuss issues and review the requirements for handling various cargoes. The company’s accident rate is among the lowest in the industry.

POLICY ON ALCOHOL AND DRUGS

Our “zero-tolerance” policy prohibiting the consumption of alcohol and drugs during working hours, including at mealtimes, is a testament to the company’s commitment to ensuring a healthy and safe environment for all.
